About this event

The Metcalf Foundation invites you to celebrate three years of remarkable strategic work by five Toronto-based organizations representing the fifth and final cohort of the Performing Arts Program's Creative Strategies Incubator.

In place of the 14th annual Next Stage Theatre Festival, Toronto Fringe presents the Next Stage Community Booster. This 4-day event from January 21-24, 2021 will feature digital performances from acclaimed artists, live-streamed conversations on urgent topics, online workshops that focus on mental and self-care, and more.

Join us at the virtual sharing event on Zoom as each company provides a sneak peak into their initiatives and the outcomes – positive, unexpected, or otherwise – that emerged in response to their efforts to explore the potential of engaging audiences and building communities around their work.

Deeply committed to developing relationships with underserved communities such as francophone youth, Spanish-speakers, newcomers, Indigenous people, and people with visible and invisible disabilities — Aluna Theatre, Canadian Opera Company, Le Théâtre français de Toronto, The Toronto Fringe, and Young People's Theatre — will reveal insights into their initiatives.

The first part of the event will include storytelling and conversation among the cohort. The second part will consist of breakout sessions where you get to engage with each other, the cohort, and the ideas they generated. The conversations will dive deeper into engaging younger audiences, cultural exchange and reconciliation, providing better access, and animating underused space.
